Mario Rampone

Died: Thursday, December 19, 2013
Mario Rampone, 85, of Port Jefferson, formerly of Dix Hills and Corona, died on Dec. 19. He was born Nov. 19, 1928 in New York City.

He was the beloved husband of Lilyan and the loving father of Janet (Robert) Bidwell and Christine (Andrew) Marrone.

A funeral Mass was held on Dec. 23 at Infant Jesus R.C. Church, Port Jefferson. Interment followed at Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery in Flushing.

Lawrence Griff

Died: Thursday, December 19, 2013
Lawrence Griff, 79, of Mount Sinai died on Dec. 19. He was born Dec. 12, 1924, in the Bronx.

He was the beloved husband of the late Rita; the loving father of Andrea (Thomas) Nugent and Michael Griff; and the cherished grandfather of Jason Griff.

Services were held Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Washington Memorial Park Chapel in Mount Sinai. Interment followed.

Merton Sells

Died: Wednesday, December 18, 2013
Merton “Big M” Sells, 80, of Floral Park (formerly of Setauket) died Dec. 18. He was born March 18, 1933, in Brooklyn, the son of Charles and Emma Sells. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Big M, a proprietor of real estate, enjoyed board games and watching sports. He coached basketball and baseball, and was a trivia buff. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; sons, Derek (Mina Malik) and Merton (Lashawn); six grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lawanda; and brothers, Clifton and Kenneth.

Services were held at the funeral parlor on Dec. 23. Mr. Sells was afforded full military honors at Calverton National Cemetery.

John Huff

Died: Tuesday, December 17, 2013
John Huff, 90, a longtime resident of Smithtown, died on Dec. 17.

A World War II veteran, he was the beloved husband of Justine; the loving father of Arthur (Grace), Kevin, Patricia (Richard), Francis (Karen), Maureen (Paul), John, Elizabeth (John) and the late Richard; the cherished grandfather of 17; the great-grandfather of 10; and the devoted brother of Ray, the late Evelyn, Walter, Maureen, Leonard and Gladys.

A funeral Mass was held on Dec. 20 at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Smithtown. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.

Mary Catherine Niglutsch

Died: Tuesday, December 17, 2013
Mary Catherine Niglutsch, 93, of East Setauket died Dec. 17. She was born Dec. 22, 1919, in New York, the daughter of John and Mary McNamara.

Mary, a homemaker, was an active member of the St. James R.C. Church in prior years.

She is survived by her niece, Catherine (Ralph) Banks, along with other family members and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank.

Services were held at the funeral parlor on Dec. 22, with the Rev. Bob Smith officiating. Committal services were private.

Kenneth E. Gomes

Died: Sunday, December 15, 2013
Kenneth E. Gomes, 84, of Northport died on Dec. 15. He was born on Jan. 6, 1929, in San Jose, Costa Rica, the son of Rueben and Hannah Claire Nathan Gomes.

Mr. Gomes was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He was also an executive for Kenroy Export in Farmingdale.

Mr. Gomes is survived by his wife, Debra A. Gomes; his daughters, Patricia (Domenic) Angelicchio and Christine (Michael) Johnson; his sons, Richard Gomes, Timothy (Susan) Gomes and Russell (Patti); his stepsons, Jesse (Heather) Wiggins and Brendan (Lauren) Wiggins; and his grandchildren, Maggie, Zach, Greta, Cassie, Izzy, Trevor, Echo, Morgan, Sam, Zoe, Alex, Aidan, Lilah and Sarah.

A funeral service was held at the funeral parlor on Dec. 18; a prayer service and burial followed on Dec. 19 at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale.

Walter W. Bauman

Died: Sunday, December 15, 2013
Walter W. Bauman, 84, of Jefferson’s Ferry in South Setauket, died on Dec. 15. He was born on Feb. 5, 1929, in Lockhaven, Pa., the son of Arthur and Mary Bauman.

He was a retired chartered financial analyst for Portland General Electric in Portland, Ore.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughter, Kathryn Williams; son, William; and three grandchildren, the children of wife Beverly’s children, Stephen (Dorothy), Thomas and Dorothy.

Services were held at the funeral home on Dec. 19. Committal services were private.

Philomena McKenna

Died: Saturday, December 14, 2013
Philomena “Phyllis” McKenna, 71, of Port Jefferson died on Dec. 14. She was born on May 7, 1942, in Limerick, Ireland. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1954.

She was the beloved wife of John for 52 years; the loving mother of Brian (Diana), John and Annmarie (Paul); the cherished grandmother of Brianna, Ian, Michael, Alexander, Kathleen, Kyle, Tara, John Patrick, Matthew, Gillian, Joseph and Leah; the loving sister of the late Thomas, Julia “Sheila,” Alexander, Ann Marie, Mary Margaret “Peggy,” Helen, Elizabeth “Betty,” Edward and Bernadett; the loving aunt to many nieces and nephews; and a dear friend to many.

Phyllis volunteered at Infant Jesus Parish in Port Jefferson for more than 40 years.

Services were held at Infant Jesus R.C. Church on Dec. 19. Interment followed at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram.

Priscilla J. Mcallister

Died: Saturday, December 14, 2013
Priscilla J. Mcallister, 72, of Hauppauge died on Dec. 14.

She was the beloved wife of Edward; the loving mother of Edward, Richard, Patricia Renick and Laura Dutton; the cherished grandmother of 11; and the dear sister of Edward Alcock, Frank Alcock and Edith Gray.

Entombment took place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Coram.

Deborah Robinson

Died: Friday, December 13, 2013
Deborah Robinson, 53, of Rocky Point died on Dec. 13.

Deborah was born on April 24, 1960, in Queens, the daughter of the late Robert Michael Nolan and Barbara (Wieland) Schuster.

She was employed by United Healthcare in Hauppauge as a manager.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Robinson; her daughters, Melissa Robinson and Nicole Robinson of Rocky Point; her mother, Barbara (Wieland) Schuster of Florida; her sisters, Christine Gudz of Georgia and Donna Wilson of Tennessee; and her brothers, Robert Nolan and Michael Nolan of Holbrook.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Dec. 19 at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Rocky Point, with the Rev. Richard P. Hoerning officiating. Private cremation followed.
