June 18, 2008 | 03:50 PM The Stony Brook School held its 86th Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 24. The baccalaureate sermon was given by Rev. Dr. Margaret Elaine M. Flake, of The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York. Ken Wales, actor, director and producer of feature film "Amazing Grace," gave the commencement
address.
The Stony Brook School graduated 63 students. The Class of 2008 is characteristic of a typical Stony Brook School class representing nine states within the USA as well as China, England, Hong Kong, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Switzerland and Taiwan.
Students will be attending a variety of colleges and universities come August. The colleges the students have committed to attend include: Boston University, Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia College (Chicago), Duquesne University, Eastern University, Emory University, The George Washington University, Kenyon College, New York University, Northwestern University, Old Dominion University, Pratt Institute, Purdue University, St. John's University, Syracuse University, University of Hawaii, University of Texas (Austin), University of West Florida and Wheaton College.
The class valedictorian is Jinsoo Michael Chung of Paramus, N.J. He is a national merit scholar. He was on the chess, varsity track, wrestling and football teams. Chung was also a dorm council member and played the cello in the chamber orchestra. In the fall, he will attend Northwestern University where he plans to major in economics.
Paul Bisagni, of Patchogue, is the 2008 salutatorian. He was the varsity track manager and helped with the tutoring program. Bisagni was also a Brookhaven hospital volunteer and was involved in the Gateway Playhouse theater in Bellport. He will attend Kenyon College in the fall where he plans to major in English literature.
The Stony Brook School, established in 1922, is an independent college preparatory boarding and day school for students in grades 7-12. The School offers rigorous academics combined with competitive athletics, training in the visual and performing arts, and focuses on character development set in the framework of Christian belief and example.
