Girl, 14, killed in head-on car crash

Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a two-car crash that claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl and injured four people early this morning.

Marco Diaz, 18, of 500 Peconic St., Ronkonkoma, was driving a 1997 Chrysler Sebring northbound on Adirondack Drive in Selden and Joseph Wakeford, 25, of 172 Stuyvesant Drive, Selden, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer westbound on Mooney Pond Road at 2:30 a.m. The two vehicles collided at the intersection of Mooney Pond Road and Adirondack Drive.

The front of the Chrysler became engulfed in flames and all four occupants were pulled from the vehicle by Sixth Precinct Police Officer Frank Saracino and a nearby resident, Randy Caparco, of 208 Mooney Pond Road.

Alora Williams, 14, of 218 Tree Road, Centereach, was pronounced dead at the scene. Williams was a passenger in the Chrysler. Two other passengers from the Chrysler were transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center by Selden Rescue. Julian Coppola, 14, of 350 Adirondack Drive, was treated for a head laceration and non-life-threatening internal injuries and Danielle Alotta, 15, of 23 Long St., Lake Grove, was treated for serious head and body trauma.

Both drivers were taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center. Wakeford was treated for a head laceration and Diaz was treated for a head laceration and back pain.

The investigation is continuing.
