A series of "veterans' health-care enrollment events" is slated to take place Friday and Saturday at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Northport.

Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern (D-Dix Hills), chairman of the Legislature's Veterans and Seniors Committee, announced the events in a press release this week, in conjunction with the Suffolk County Office of Handicapped Services and the Veterans Services Agency.

Members of the VA's Community Relations Team will be on hand to explain VA medical benefits, programs and eligibility, according to Stern's release.

Team members will be authorized to enroll veterans in programs, issue new or replacement ID cards, answer questions and review eligibility updates for Purple Heart recipients, Vietnam veterans (including so-called Agent Orange Veterans and Blue Water Veterans) and veterans of the Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom conflicts, the release added.

The enrollment events are slated to run from 6 pm to 9 pm Friday and from 10 am to 1 pm Saturday at the VA Medical Center, located at 79 Middleville Road in Northport. Sessions will be held in Building 200, Room A15, the release said.

To RSVP or for more information, call the VA at 261-4400, Ext. 7082 or 7238.
