Seven cars torched in one community

The Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad is investigating a series of car fires early Friday morning in Port Jefferson Station.

Police officers and firefighters from the Selden Fire Department responded to reports of several cars on fire on Continental Drive in Port Jefferson Station at 3:30 a.m. Subsequent investigation indicated a total of seven vehicles had been damaged by fire. The fires were intentionally set. All of the vehicles were either unlocked or had open windows. Thefts of electronic and personal items from several of the vehicles were reported by the owners.

Several of the vehicles with smoldering fires within were discovered by the responding police officers and firefighters.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information regarding these arson fires is requested to call the Arson Squad at 631-852-6150, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
