Cops: ID thief impersonated C'reach man at Conn. casino
August 08, 2008 | 05:57 PM
A Centereach resident had no idea his identity had been stolen, Suffolk County police said this week — until he received a call from a Connecticut casino with an alleged grifter in custody.

A security detective from the Mohegan Sun Resort in Uncasville, Conn., called the Holbrook Road resident around noon July 25 and reported that hotel officers had arrested a male subject who was claiming to be the Centereach man and attempting to defraud the hotel, according to police reports.

The complainant told investigators from the Suffolk County Police Department that he had no idea any of this was happening until the hotel reached out, and that he was unaware of any means the alleged con man might have used to obtain the victim's identification. Officers were continuing their investigation, police said.
