Errant pooch tale opens no gate at Grid

Employees of the National Grid Power Plant on Beach Street in Port Jefferson called at 1 pm Jan. 8 to report a female subject had come to their location and stated she needed to get into the power plant to find a dog that had escaped from an animal hospital. The complainant was advised by staff she could not come on the property but would be quickly notified if the dog is found.

Arson

Police reported at 4:53 pm Jan. 17 that an unknown person intentionally set fire to accumulated trash and contents inside of an abandoned building at the corner of Hallock Avenue and Route 112 in Terryville.

Getaway goof

A proprietor of a business on Route 347 in Port Jefferson Station called at 5:47 pm Jan. 13 to report an unknown person grabbed an armful of items from his store and ran to a car. The complainant stated he managed to write down the subject's license plate number before the vehicle drove off.

Tracked by truck

A female complainant called at 10 pm Jan. 12 from a location on Old Town Road in Port Jefferson Station to report an unknown male operating a truck was following her around the parking lot of her housing complex.

Property line dispute

A resident of Old Post Road in Port Jefferson called at 12:28 pm Jan. 11 to report having an argument over the placement of property lines with his neighbor. According to the complainant both parties have hired separate land surveyors to sort out this situation and still they cannot agree over approximately 7 feet of property. The officers recommended community mediation to resolve this land dispute.

All terrain vehemence

A resident of Janet Street in Port Jefferson Station called at 4 pm Jan. 7 to report she had a dispute with a 19-year-old neighbor. According to the complainant the subject was causing a disturbance by riding his ATV in the private cul-de-sac. The complainant further stated that the subject used disrespectful language to her because she asked him to "respect his neighbors and neighborhood." Police spoke to the complainant and subject as well as to the subject's father and issued a community mediation form to the involved parties.

Vanishing youth

An anonymous complainant called at 1:20 pm Jan. 13 from a location on Washington Avenue in Port Jefferson Station to report observing four youths exiting a car at the dead end of a street and suspiciously entering the adjacent woods. Police checked three sections of the woods and neighborhood without locating the youths or their vehicle.

Parrots in the pink

An anonymous complainant called at 4:29 pm Jan. 12 to report that two parrots had been left unattended in a 2002 Honda Civic parked in a lot along Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station. According to the complainant the birds were either deceased or well on the way. Police observed that the birds in the car were alive and well. Officers located the bird's owner who stated there was no problem and claimed he brings his fine feathered friends with him to this location everyday.

Front lawn fracas

A resident of Yale Street in Port Jefferson Station called at 3:45 pm Jan. 12 to report a fight in progress on her front lawn involving two unknown males. The complainant stated that the impromptu punchers left in separate vehicles just prior to the arrival of police.
