Police are investigating an apparent criminal fire at BJ's Wholesale Club in East Setauket while the store was open for business yesterday.

The fire was contained to a small area in the bedding section of the 4000 Nesconset Highway store at 12:30 pm. Store personnel evacuated all customers and there were no injuries. The fire was extinguished by the building's sprinkler system. Members of the Setauket Fire Department responded and used large fans to vent smoke from the building.

Detectives are asking any customer who was in the bedding section on March 17 between 12:15 pm and 1 pm or anyone else with information on this fire to call the Arson Section at 852-6150 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this arson.
