Two injured in crash

The Suffolk County Police Department arrested a Naples, Florida man on Sunday after a motor vehicle crash at 8:43 pm left two people with serious injuries.

Kristian Chirelli, 18, of Smithtown, was driving a 2002 Honda eastbound on Veterans Highway and collided with a 1999 Ford pick-up driven by Jose Davila-Ramirez, 20, of Naples, Fla. At the time, Davila-Ramirez was attempting to make a left turn from westbound Veterans Highway onto Suffolk Avenue in Islandia.

Nicholas McElroy, 19, of Nesconset, a passenger in the Honda, was taken by ambulance to Southside Hospital suffering from a broken femur. Chirelli, who broke both of his legs, was airlifted to the University Hospital at Stony Brook. Both men are in serious condition.

Police allege that Davila-Ramirez left the scene of the accident but returned later and was arrested. He is charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident and was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct pending arraignment at this morning.
