At about 7:18 pm Friday, May 1, Smithtown Fire Department personnel responded to a single-car crash behind Bank of America in the Hillside Village Shopping Center, Route 111 south of Jericho Turnpike.

The driver, working for Lindy's Taxi, crashed into the retaining wall at the rear of the parking lot, with the driver's side up against the wall. Smithtown Rescue used extrication tools to remove the roof of the car and pull the victim out.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, suffered multiple internal injuries and was transported by ambulance to Stony Brook University Medical Center.
