Candidate pool final
Mayor Harty not seeking 2nd term
May 14, 2009 | 08:08 AM
By the time the clock in Port Jefferson Village Clerk Bob Juliano's office showed 5 pm Tuesday — the statutory deadline to file nominating petitions for the June 16 village elections — two candidates for mayor and four candidates for village trustee had delivered the requisite signatures. Current Mayor Brian Harty was not among them. Instead, Deputy Mayor Joe Erland will contest the mayoral race against newcomer Margot Garant, daughter of former mayor Jeanne Garant.

On the trustee side, where two seats are open, incumbent Virginia Capon will run for a sophomore term in an at large election against newcomers Ken Brady, Adrienne Kessel and Leslea Snyder. Village Trustee Harry Faulknor will not seek a fourth term.

The Port Times Record and the Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce will host a candidates' debate Thursday, June 4, from 7 to 9 pm in the Sail Loft Room at the Village Center. Members of the public who would like to submit questions to be asked during the debate should email or send a letter to the editor. Include your name and phone number for confirmation.
