Suspected swine flu in 3V School district notifies parents
|
May 27, 2009 | 02:16 PM The Three Village Central School District posted the following letter on its website Tuesday, May 26:
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The District was notified this afternoon that a student at Ward Melville High School has been tested and may have the H1N1 virus, commonly known as 'swine flu.' This is the District's first suspected case of the virus. After seeking appropriate medical treatment, I am pleased to report that the student has recovered from the illness and has been cleared to return to school.
In a separate and unrelated case, a Minnesauke Elementary School parent has notified the District of a diagnosis of the same illness. This parent does not have regular contact with students and, at this time, no other members of the family have tested positive for H1N1. We will continue to monitor each of these situations carefully and maintain regular contact with our Chief School Physician and the Department of Health.
I encourage all parents to review the rules for proper hygiene with your children and encourage them to follow these rules with vigilance. Additionally, if you suspect your child is getting the flu, it is important that he/she not attend school and seek medical attention at once.
More information about the flu and material provided by the New York State Health Department can be found on our District website, ww.threevillagecsd.org.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Ralph P. Ferrie, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
