Weed whacker whacks resident

A male resident of Olympia Street in Stony Brook called at 12:30 pm July 2 to report an apparently intoxicated male subject drove up to his home and assaulted him, at one point hitting the complainant over the head with a weed whacker, causing a laceration of the complainant's scalp. Police arrived at the scene and arrested a male resident of Millbrook Drive in Stony Brook, charging him with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, assault with intent to cause pain and causing injury with a weapon.

Arrests
A male defendant who resides on Seabrook Lane in Stony Brook was arrested on June 27 after being interviewed at a traffic stop on Route 25A and Chestnut Street in Mount Sinai. He was charged with driving while intoxicated. Police reported that the defendant has two prior DWI arrests.

Police reported on June 30 that a male defendant residing in Port Jefferson was arrested at a hardware superstore on Nesconset Highway in Stony Brook and charged with petit larceny. According to the arriving officers the defendant removed various merchandise from a display case and then attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. He was stopped and detained by store security.

Criminal mischief
A male resident of Braemer Road in East Setauket called at 6:15 am June 29 to report that parts of his property were just vandalized by a known subject.

Burglary
A male resident of Francis Street in Setauket called at 4:30 pm July 1 to report he just discovered his home had been burglarized. The complainant stated that he did not yet know what items were taken by the perpetrators who entered the house sometime over the past three hours.

A female resident of Hawkins Road in Stony Brook called at 3 pm July 1 to report, after being away from her home for about two hours, she found her garage door was open and she suspected that a burglary may be in progress. Upon arrival, police discovered that the intruder, who had already left the scene, entered the garage via a rear window and then accessed the house. The complainant checked her possessions and stated that the subject stole various items of jewelry, a computer and camera.
