In an effort to do something to help, the following summer he swam from Asharoken Beach in Northport to Knollwood Beach in Huntington, to raise funds and awareness for this devastating disease which affects 55,000 people here on Long Island. Although Bryan swam alone the first year, each year since he has been joined by a terrific group of people who have compassion and determination to make a difference.
At noon Wednesday, July 22, Bryan, his brother Eric, and 30 other volunteers will swim 3.5 miles across Northport Bay to raise funds for research and the Alzheimer's Association of Long Island. They will be accompanied by men in the Huntington Harbormaster and Northport Fire Department boats as well as volunteers in kayaks.
Funds raised by the swim go to research and for programs the Alzheimer's Association provides for persons and families affected by this devastating disease.
