The Long Island Depression Glass Society (LIDGS) will host a Glass Show and Sale on Sunday, Aug. 9 from 10 am to 4:30 pm at Vanderbilt Museum. As part of a Family Day, there will be no charge for a visit to the show, which will be included in general admission to the museum grounds, said former LIDGS president Helen Guglielmo, who is co-chairing the event with Eileen Boschen.

The wares of dealers from across the tristate area will be on view in the Vanderbilt's big tent "only a stone's throw" from the mansion, Guglielmo said. The event will showcase the spectacular multi-colored American-made glass that took the country by storm in the 1920s and continued to reign through the 1940s.

"There will be plain and etched glass, and glass in every color of the rainbow," Guglielmo said of the event, which attracted thousands of visitors last year.

In addition to an abundance of general Depression glass, the top names in elegant glass, including Fostoria, Heisey and Cambridge, will be well represented. There will also be an intriguing assortment of glass kitchenware to add to the attraction.

Those who take the house tour will have the unique opportunity to view several hundred prized pieces that are on permanent loan from the LIDGS.

One lucky connoisseur of this highly collectible glass genre will walk away with a pink luncheon service for four in the Adam pattern. The set includes cups, saucers, and plates, along with the matching rare and highly sought after butter dish, Guglielmo indicated. Raffle tickets will be on sale for $1 a chance; six for $5.

The Vanderbilt Museum is located at 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport.
