Garden Club honors street gardens
August 13, 2009 | 11:55 AM
Despite a cooler-than-usual summer with buckets of rain, hailstorms and an abundance of slugs, beetles and assorted pesky insects, the undaunted gardeners of the Three Villages, once again, turned out spectacular summer gardens.

In July, teams from the Three Village Garden Club visited the homes of the 49 participants in the Street Garden Recognition Program. Then, on Aug. 1, at the appreciation breakfast, the club members awarded plaques to the gardeners and displayed the photos taken of their lovely street gardens.

The recipients were: James and Deborah Bartell, Steve and Mary Jane Beierle, Robert and Joan Bloom, Stephanie Bristol, Marcia Burger, Kevin Clark and Richard Papa, Christine Ciantro, Mr. and Mrs. Colleary, Anthony and Lisa D'Amore, Mary DiFronzo, Mary Ellen Doris, Nicholas and Arleen Gargiulo, Sharon Goetchius, Trudy Grattan, Tara Grippe, Rita Hammer, Kimberly Henry, Bernice Kornfield-Premisler, Mike and Nan Lackowski, Dolores McCarthy, Janet McDowell, Jack and Diane Moosmueller, Frank Orlick, Jean O'Rourk, Julie Parmegiani, Anastasia Portnoy, Dennis Reardon, Tom and Eileen Roberts, Bob and Diana Robinson, Paula Rood, Mary Lou Ruis, Karin Ryon, Bruce and Diane Sander, Rachel Schwartz, Anne Seader, Patricia Seader, Dorothy Schiff Shannon, Jill Silas, Mike Specht, Sari Tamilio, Rose Thomas, Gisela Tornquist, Irena Trzcialkowska, Aida Von Oiste, Sue Wahlert, Jeff and Marion Warren, Keith and Virginia Wheeler, and Donna Wilder.

Over the next few weeks, residents of the Three Villages are invited to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to view the gardens that their neighbors have created. Since they are "street" gardens, they are visible to those "passing by." In addition, photographs of the gardens will be on display in Emma Clark Library, 120 Main St., Setauket during the month of August. A list of locations of the gardens appears in the side bar.
