August 19, 2009 | 02:28 PM Especially in the current recession, would the construction of a Habitat for Humanity house be a welcome addition to the Huntington housing landscape? Here would be a family that is, to use the common expression, offered a hand up rather than a hand out. Here would be homeowners that are held accountable not only for the maintenance of their property but also for community service. Here would be an organization allowing a struggling family to get ahead on payments through an interest-free mortgage rather than an adjustable-rate one, which ultimately would help prevent foreclosure. Win-win, no?
