The Trust must remove the houses by Dec. 10 of this year to save them from demolition.
Many letters supporting the application were sent to the BZA from community leaders, including Town Historian Barbara Russell, President Kara Hahn of the Civic Association of the Setaukets and Stony Brook, Assemblyman Steve Englebright (D-Setauket) and Councilman Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld (D-East Setauket). George Hoffman, who lives next to the receiving property, appeared in person to express support for the project. No opposition to the application was entered.
The approvals enable the Trust to go ahead with moving the houses to a site at the back of its Bruce House Property on Main Street. To preserve their historic appearance, the Trust plans to maintain their nearly 100-year-old configuration — in a row — and place them parallel to and distantly visible from Route 25A.
"We urge the community to please support this Historic Preservation project," said Trust President Cynthia Barnes. "If you wish to contribute or would like more information, please contact the Trust."
