September 04, 2009 | 03:56 PM Jones receives Masonic scholarship Sarah Jones of Port Jefferson recently received a scholarship from the Grand Lodge and Trustees of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York. She accepted the scholarship from Vincent Libone, deputy grand master and Manny Abad, trustee. Qualifying children, grandchildren and widows of Masons are eligible to receive assistance from the New York Masonic Education Assistance Program.
Pacala is Teach Children to Save essay contest winner Astoria Federal Savings held its fourth annual essay contest for children, ages 5-12, asking the students to complete the statement: "If I save a lot today, in the future I could…" Ten-year-old Michelle Pacala of Port Jefferson is one of three first-place winners who each won a Teach Children to Save Celebration Award Certificate and an Education First medal. Most of the young writers said they wished to make the world a better place. They would use their saved money for college and to save the environment, stamp out hunger and disease, and help others less fortunate. Many simply wished to support their families and plan for retirement.
Campo graduates from Western New England College Jamie S. Campo of Port Jefferson graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Western New England College on May 16. Jamie majored in psychology and was named to the dean's list for the spring semester. Students are named to the dean's list for achieving a semester grade point average of 3.30 or higher.
Stosuy named to dean's list at SUNY Oswego Justin M. Stosuy of Port Jefferson, a senior elementary education major, has been named to the deans' list for the spring semester at SUNY Oswego. To be included on the deans' list, students must have a semester grade average of 3.30 to 3.79.
