East N'port remembers 9/11 with eighth annual service

Members of the East Northport Fire Department, surrounding department members and the community will come together Sept. 11 at 9:45 am in front of the East Northport Fire Department on Larkfield Road to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorism attacks and to pay tribute to those who lost their lives.

An evening ceremony will also be held at 8 pm at the East Northport Fire Department. At the same time in John Walsh Park, the East Northport Chamber of Commerce will ask all in attendance to share in this commemoration ceremony. Festival music will be turned off for contemplation, prayer and reflection in respect for those lost. At the conclusion of this time of silence, all will be asked to join together with Alison Day in singing "God Bless America."

Victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks included the following local residents:

• Centerport: Farrell P. Lynch, 39, a trader with Cantor Fitzgerald; and Oleh D. Wengerchuk, 56, a designer with Washington Group International.
