|
September 10, 2009 | 10:32 AM Motorheads and history buffs will rub elbows at the Village Center on East Broadway in Port Jefferson Sunday, Sept. 13, at an exhibit in honor of the 45th anniversary of the Ford Mustang, which was unveiled to the public on opening day of the 1964 New York World's Fair in Flushing.

(click for larger version) | | Organized by Rich Carlsen, secretary of the Mustang and Shelby Club of Long Island, and the Port Jefferson Recreation Department, the show — free to the public — will exhibit more than 40 vintage autos. Both inside the center and on the outside park grounds, visitors will get a chance for a close look at the cars and a chat with their owners while a band plays 60s music. The Mustangs will be here courtesy of the MSCLI.
Members of the Conservancy will be on hand with refreshments and information on upcoming events.
This the second year for the Mustangs to visit Port Jefferson.
Some of us are old enough to remember being thrilled by having the World's Fair so close to home. I can recall wheeling our stroller with our 4-month-old son and thinking he was part of an historical event. If any of the Record readers would like to bring down their memorabilia from either the fair or the early days of Shea, please do so. We will have a table there for you to share your information with other show participants.
