The historic Gamecock Cottage at the south end of West Meadow Beach has had a plaque mounted near its front door to recognize its designation in 2007 as a national historic site. At a ceremony Monday morning several local dignitaries officially unveiled the plaque. Shown above are, from left, Three Village Community Trust's Herb Mones; Ron Foley, regional director for the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; Councilman Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld (D-East Setauket); Assemblyman Steve Englebright (D-Setauket); Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko; TVCT's President Cynthia Barnes and Town Historian Barbara Russell.

A stewardship agreement between Brookhaven Town and the Trust is nearing completion. When implemented, according to Fiore-Rosenfeld, the town will refurbish the structure, convert the second story to an apartment, and turn over the first floor to the Trust, which is expected to create a public place to view the historic landmark.
