The North Shore Beach Property Owners Association Monday announced the winners of its first annual North Shore Beach Photo Contest. North Shore Beach residents, as well as residents from neighboring towns and visitors to the area, were challenged to capture the spirit of Rocky Point's North Shore Beach locale. Nearly 100 photos were submitted, including the work of six shutterbugs ranging in age from 3 to 14.

Close to 100 attended the awards presentation held Sept. 12 at the NSBPOA Clubhouse in Rocky Point to find out who would receive top honors. The Clubhouse was transformed into a gallery and all attendees became judges for the night as they cast their "People's Choice" vote for the photo they wished to see on the cover of the upcoming "Spirit of North Shore Beach" 2010 calendar.

Stephanie Brick from New Hope, Pa., wowed attendees and took the vote with her stunning photo titled "Independence Day: The Spirit of Celebration." Set against a dramatic Long Island Sound and sea cliff backdrop, the photo shows a celebratory crowd enjoying a nighttime Fourth of July fireworks display at Broadway Beach. Fireworks can be seen as far away as Port Jefferson and along the Connecticut horizon.

First prize went to Howard Stevens from Rocky Point, second prize to Stephanie Brick and third prize to George Bambara from Staten Island and Rocky Point. In the Shutterbug category (ages 15 and under), first and second prizes went to Rachel Mannetta, 14, of Rocky Point, and third prize went to Claire Paetzel, 3, of Mattituck.
