The well-known and well-liked proprietor of Via Pizza on Route 25A in East Setauket died early Saturday morning when he lost control of his car just north of the Emma Clark Library and crashed.

Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating the crash just after 3 am that claimed the life of Emilio Fornino, who with his brother John ran the popular restaurant.

Fornino was driving a 2004 Jeep Cherokee northbound on Main Street in Setauket at the intersection of Bates Road when he struck an embankment and crashed into a LIPA utility pole, according to the SCPD. The point of impact was the driver's side door.

Fornino, 27, suffered massive head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
