Councilman Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld has proven himself a good representative in the 1st Council District since before it existed. He was a soldier in the fight to create legislative districts in Brookhaven and has shown admirable leadership ever since. His willingness to stand up for Port Jefferson Station-Terryville, in some cases working against his own party to impose a moratorium in order to provide time for a hamlet study to be completed, was exemplary. We admire the councilman's efforts on behalf of environmental preservation and stewardship. His work ethic and intelligence are assets for the northwest corner of the township and indeed all of Brookhaven.
Ed Wendol is himself a committed civic and community leader whom we commend for his many contributions to our area. However, in order to turn out an incumbent who has not shown significant flaws in representing his constituents, a challenger must offer more than criticisms and claims that he or she would do better. We did not hear new or better ideas from the challenger.
We endorse Councilman Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld for reelection in the 1st Council District.
