PJ man arrested for multiple bank heists

| | | SCPD (click for larger version) | | November 10, 2009 | 07:35 AM Suffolk County Police today arrested a Port Jefferson man for the robbery of three banks since last month.
A man entered the Astoria Federal Savings Bank, located at 1015 Route 112, Port Jefferson, at 1:15 p.m. Monday. He approached a teller with a note demanding cash and threatening the use of a gun. The teller complied with the robber's demands and gave him cash from the drawer. The robber fled the bank and was followed by a bank employee who observed him enter Pathmark, located at 5145 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station. Officer John Bokinz of the Sixth Precinct C.O.P.E unit responded and located the suspect within the supermarket.
Major Case Investigations Unit detectives charged Gabriel Rodriguez, 31, of Hallock Avenue, Port Jefferson, with one count of robbery 3rd degree. Rodriguez was also charged with two counts of robbery 3rd degree for the robbery of the HSBC Bank branch in Port Jefferson Station on October 30, and the Teachers Federal Credit Union branch in Port Jefferson Station on November 5.
Rodriguez was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 10.
