Huntington Town notes Recount in progress; Town Board adopts budget
|
November 10, 2009 | 02:30 PM Town Board adopts budget Voting unanimously at their Nov. 5 meeting, the town board approved a spending plan of $185.6 million for 2010.
In light of the current recession, the town reduced spending by about 5.9 percent or $11.6 million, while promising no significant reduction in town services and no increase in taxes for the three major funds.
For 2010, Huntington residents can anticipate a tax rate of $20.60 per $100 assessed value for the general, part-town and highway funds; and a refuse flat tax of $369.
Election recount in progress After the nail-biting election Nov. 3, the Town Board incumbents and candidates will have to sit tight as the Suffolk County Board of Elections performs its countywide recount. Current results show victories for Democrats Supervisor Frank Petrone and Councilman Mark Cuthbertson and Republican Mark Mayoka.
"We do it every time," Suffolk Board of Elections Commissioner Anita Katz explained. "If you'll notice on Election Night, the results that you see on computers say 'unofficial results.' The Board of Elections is recounting the entire ballot. It isn't Huntington per se. We're doing every town." Certified results should be in by the end of the week, Katz said.
