Port Jeff Go Green — Round 2 Environmental excitement draws young, older to Village Center
|
November 12, 2009 | 11:44 AM The Village Center was filled with children and adults Saturday on the occasion of the second annual Port Jefferson Village Go Green Information Fair. Visitors learned, listened, sang and enjoyed the numerous vendors providing information on a wide range of environmental topics.

Public radio station WSHU was represented with volunteers and essayist, writer and classical music maven David Bouchier. Four Harbors Audubon Group, Port Jefferson's Suwassett Garden Club and many others also enriched the day. Port Jefferson and Comsewogue high schools had booths run by many student volunteers. People could trade in an incandescent bulb for an energy-saving (and more expensive) compact fluorescent light bulb for free.

Organizers John Lutterbie, Kathy O'Sullivan and this reporter know we still have a ways to go, but believe we are off to a good start, having witnessed the community bond in the work toward common environmental goals. We are already looking forward to next year's project.
