25A project begins at SB Pond
November 18, 2009 | 08:00 AM
The state Department of Transportation reports construction is under way on a $694,000 project to improve drainage on Route 25A, help restore the Stony Brook Mill Pond, and clean 28 storm water treatment systems on state roadways throughout Suffolk County.

The construction contract, awarded to Bi-County Construction Corporation of Medford, is funded through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Funded by federal stimulus money, the project, developed in cooperation with the local community, will help preserve the Stony Brook Mill Pond as a fragile aquatic resource and protect motorists from roadway flooding conditions. The project is expected to be completed in winter 2010.

The funds are allocated to projects that are selected by the 13 regional Metropolitan Planning organizations across the state, comprised of local elected officials, local transit operators and DOT representatives.
