Road safety upgrades
November 27, 2009 | 12:33 PM
A No Turn On Red traffic sign will be installed at the intersection of Barnum Avenue and Route 25A "as soon as work schedules permit," state Department of Transportation spokesperson Eileen Peters said in an email Monday. In addition, Peters said DOT "reviewed the pedestrian signal operation" and has "provided additional time to cross NY Route 25A."

The DOT investigation was undertaken by the department's traffic and safety engineers, and included an accident analysis, signal timing inspection and field observations of the area. Peters said the investigation was prompted by a letter written earlier this year by then 6th Precinct commander Inspector Frank Stallone. That letter was sent in response to resident complaints aired at a public meeting of the Port Jefferson Village Board.
