Joe Evangelista, senior and co-captain of the Northport High School varsity wrestling team coached by Al Cicio, earned his 100th career win Jan. 27 at an away league match at Sachem North High School.

For his 100th, Evangelista pinned Sachem's Nick Iannello in the 135 weight class. After this past weekend, at the 2010 Sachem East tournament, Evangelista improved his record to 30-1 for the season after winning four matches and being named champion of the 135 weight class. With Saturday's wins, Evangelista improved his pin record to 21. Only five others in Northport High School's history have reached this wrestling milestone.

In addition, Evangelista was named champion at the North Babylon and Locust Valley tournaments in the 135 weight class and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at Locust Valley. He plans on attending Sacred Heart University in the fall and wrestling for the Pioneers.
