The Kings Park girls winter track team won the Suffolk County small school championships Friday night. The win marks the second time in the past three years they've won the county title.

The Kingsmen grabbed a total of 97.50 points compared to the defending champion Mount Sinai, who came in a distant second with 66 points, Eastport-South Manor was third with 34 and Miller Place, Half Hollow Hills West and Shoreham tied for fourth.

"It went pretty much as planned," said Kings Park head coach Rob Muller. "I'm real proud of the girls. They've worked hard all year. We're very deep and well rounded in that we have a lot of individuals who can score points. We also have a strong jumping team. More than half our points came in jumping events."

The Kingsmen earned four first places, five second and three third for a total of 92 of their 97.50 points. "Kings Park has been exceptional all year long," said Mount Sinai head coach Bill Dwyer. "We scored the same number of points last year when we won. But it was not a surprise this year. We won or placed in almost every running event but Kings Park was able to place multiple winners in many events and they won a lot of the field events. Everyone on our team did exceptionally well and I'm happier this year than I was last year."
