Junior right-hander Nick Tropeano, of the Stony Brook University baseball team, has been named a preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Named to the third team, Tropeano led the Seawolves to the conference title last season.

The 2010 America East Co-Pitcher of the Year, Tropeano went 8-4 with a 2.44 ERA in 2010 as he struck out a conference-best 106 batters in 99.2 innings. The ERA mark ranked 24th in the country and his 6.86 hits allowed per nine innings ranked 17th.

He also had the best ERA in the America East during conference play (1.29) and led the conference in strikeouts per game (9.6) and innings per start (7.1). Tropeano led the America East in complete games (seven) and was second in opponent batting average (.213).

The right-hander also had an impressive summer, posting a 3.76 ERA in 55.0 innings for the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod League. Tropeano led the league with 55 strikeouts and hurled 6.2 innings of no-hit relief to lead the Kettleers to a 6-0 victory in the decisive third game of the Cape Cod League Championship series.

Winners of two of the last three America East Championships, the Seawolves open the 2011 season on Feb. 25 at Florida Atlantic. Renovation of Joe Nathan Field is currently underway, with completion of the project scheduled for this spring.
