by 'backlash' I in no way mean to imply that a teacher would or should do anything to jeopardize the job they do in the classroom. Just don't expect us to do very much above and beyond that. Why should we when the district shows us no consideration by dragging their feet with the contract? While we have been working hard for the kids of the district, the Super pushed our ending contract under the rug. Make no mistake about it, the Super did this for a reason. What that reason is, I can't say for sure, though I have some ideas.
What are the issues? We don't know, we're not entitled to know until the union and the BOE agree to agree.
How do our students do on tests etc? As well as can be expected considering the other issues we deal with in our community. We have a high rate of poverty, of immigration, of attendance issues, or single parent households, dropouts, drugs, special needs, non-english speaking students. Meanwhile what has the Super done to improve things? She has eliminated some honors programs, and eliminated other introductory classes that were intended to help weaker students. Nonetheless, the students that do the right thing, and care about their education, do quite well in MCCSD.
