Marian Coursen
Marian "Mattie" R. Coursen, of Stony Brook, died on Jan. 22. She was born on Aug. 6, 1922, in the Bronx. She was a cover model in NYC and in 1940 was Miss Bronx. She also placed second in NYS pageant. Mattie was a volunteer for the Ward Melville Heritage Organization and earned awards for her many hours of work with children. She is the beloved wife of John; loving mother of Wayne, his wife Marienne; Leslie Curran and her husband Donald; cherished grandmother of Ryan, Evan and the late C.J.; adored great-grandmother of Daniel Reid, Morgan and Johnny. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday at St. James RC Church. Interment followed at the St. James Churchyard cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Good Shepherd Hospice in Port Jefferson or the American Diabetes Assn. would be appreciated.
