Joseph Valentine
Joseph P. Valentine, Sr., 86 years old of Stony Brook, died on Jan. 12.
He was born on May 9, 1923, in Brooklyn, the son of the late Charles James and Mary Ida Valentine.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards, the beach, swimming and especially his family. Mr. Valentine was a member of the St. James R.C. Knights of Columbus. He taught for over 40 years and retired from Northport school district as a high school math teacher.
Mr. Valentine, Sr. is survived by his wife, Joan Valentine of Stony Brook; daughters, Dr. Elizabeth Ann (Fletcher Starnes) Valentine, Margaret (Timothy) Kelly of Stony Brook, Mary Louise (Daniel) Simon of Locust Valley; sons, Richard (Michelle) Valentine of Manhassett, Joseph Peter Valentine, Jr. of Hastings on the Hudson, Fr. Timothy Valentine and Christopher (Leslie) Valentine of Shoreham; 17 grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ann Hegquist; and stepchildren Mary (Mike) Sherlock of Delaware and Paul (Janice) Schnappauf of New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Theresa Elizabeth and brother Charles in 1979.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. James RC Church on Jan. 16, with interment following in the St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.
