Foley: zero property tax increase in '09 budget

One way or another, "There will not be a general fund property tax increase for 2009." So says Brookhaven Supervisor Brian Foley, who on June 11 ordered town departments to prepare two 2009 spending plans — one holding expenditures at 2008 levels and one reducing spending by 5 percent.

Planting the seeds

Nancy Doall's prekindergarten students have reaped what they sowed. At a year-end garden party held June 19 at the North Coleman Road Elementary School, Doall's class celebrated a bountiful harvest of lettuce, spinach and peas from an organic "Pre-Kinder-Garden" the students planted and maintained themselves.
