Bishop meeting turns ugly

A town hall-type meeting hosted by Congressman Tim Bishop (D-Southampton) in Setauket Monday night quickly turned loud and combative as hundreds of demonstrators from across Suffolk County confronted the Democrat on health care reform, federal bailouts and environmental issues.

Election recount requested

The Suffolk County Board of Elections has been requested to recanvass the results of the June 16 Village of Port Jefferson elections, Village Clerk Bob Juliano confirmed Monday. Village Trustee Joe Erland — who lost his bid for mayor to first-time challenger Margot Garant — filed an official request at Village Hall June 18.
