Neighbor fears junk's impact on environment, health

Trucks, tires, scrap metal and piles of bricks and cinder blocks ­— those are just some of the items scattered across the backyard of a Port Jefferson home. Village residents Warren and April Coburn said their neighbors at 3 Willis Avenue have been hoarding an assortment of items through "illegal dumping," causing their backyard to appear more like a junkyard.

POLICE REPORT

A resident of Shenandoah Boulevard in Port Jefferson Station called at 6 pm Oct. 5 to report recently attempting to purchase New York Giants tickets on craigslist. The complainant stated he connected with an alleged resident of London who claimed to be selling the tickets through a ticket service that the complainant believed to be "legit." The complainant sent $540 dollars via wire service but after a time realized no tickets were forthcoming. The caller contacted the offices of the ticket service and was informed he had bought into a scam. Police advised the complainant to contact the FBI because the incident described may be considered an international crime.

A 22-year-old male resident of Shell Road in Rocky Point was arrested on Oct. 4 at a location on Broadway in Rocky Point and charged with burglary of a dwelling, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal contempt involving physical contact. Police reported the defendant broke into a dwelling on Broadway via the rear basement window with intent to steal property and also punched someone during the incident and upon his arrest was found to be in possession of a weapon.
