The state's routine audit of the Comsewogue School District, when it was announced last month, made Long Island headlines because of the lofty "separation payments" received by former superintendent Phil Brande, who retired in 2006 with the second highest pension in the New York State Teachers' Retirement System. Current Comsewogue Superintendent Shelly Saffer said recently her contract contains provisions similar to those Brande had.

An 18-year-old male complainant called at 7:55 pm Oct. 25 to report being injured while working as an actor in a Halloween production at a location in Heritage Park in Mount Sinai. According to the complainant he was running down a grassy slope and slipped upon reaching the asphalt whereupon a trailer full of children rolled over his left ankle. Port Jefferson Village ambulance personnel transported the complainant to Mather Hospital for treatment.
