Across the ocean seas, into Port Jefferson at last

I never tire of watching the ferries. There is, I think, a kind of grandeur in their daily work, ordinary though the daily crossings may seem. At least the passage is over open water, sometimes even quite adventurous water, and long enough to provide a changing variety of sea conditions.

Tomorrow is my birthday, and as I do each year, I feel sad that for my age, I should be wise. When will that happen? Supposedly with age comes wisdom, but I'm still waiting.

Beautiful people and an awe-inspiring landscape set the stage for this darn good action flick. "A Perfect Getaway" is a lean, 97-minute thriller where characters discuss writing for the movies and second-reel plot twists while kayaking with a secret killer and hiking alongside homicidal maniacs.

It's terrifying to see what havoc addiction is wreaking on the Smithtown area. Not only is the documented uptick in heroin use in recent years shattering abusers' physical health and mental well-being, in some cases leading to overdoses and suicides.
