The appeal of celebrating villainy

An acquaintance from another country asked me one of those questions that reveals so much about our culture: how many days is Halloween and when does it end? Yes, it's only one day, but the lead up to it lasts about a month, when people first start putting spider webs, ghosts, ghouls, vampires, orange lights and pumpkins all around their homes.

Like Halloween ghosts, two figures have revisited us this week through the mists of time. With all the attendant publicity, and though their fame peaked in the late 1930s and they are both long dead, their stories are remarkably vivid to this day.

While both challenger and incumbent agree on the need for adequate police resources, and both are cognizant of the need for new additions to our commercial tax base, we believe incumbent Dan Losquadro demonstrates a greater familiarity with both issues and exhibits a more layered and sensible approach to dealing with those issues. We enthusiastically endorse Legislator Dan Losquadro in the 6th District.

For 13th District: Nowick Democrat Rachel Kerdman, who has had little to say this campaign season and would not sit for a candidate interview, would have had to make quite an argument to shake our support for county Legislator Lynne Nowick, the Republican incumbent.
