"the elementary school is being ruined."

Correction, the elementary school was already ruined and it appears as though Riley and the BOE majority are making sure it stays that way.

"Face it- our kids are being used as experimental test subjects. "

Our children have been, atleast for the last five years I've been here. The more things change the more they stay the same.

willis ave dump
February 08, 2010 | 09:22 PM

The sad thing here is from what i read it has been a problem for almost 10 years now. The owners dumping have time and money invested in the "dump". They will fight the village and all the residents will pay. We will pay for the blight on the community it is bringing. We will pay for the attourney fees the village will incur to correct it. All the village had to do is enforce it laws. but for some reason these owners were given a free pass to use this property as a landfill. call the village and see if you can get a baseline projection of the laywer fees that will be paid enforcing the code now!!! What a shame!!

"Face it- our kids are being used as experimental test subjects."

I'll let you in on a little secret: MANY supers are guilty of running a wide assortment of experiments on kids...and teachers for that matter. Decisions are often made from above without real hard thinking about consequences. Ironically, the people that have the most experience and knowledge concerning what the kids need, and DONT need, are rarely if ever asked to provide input. I'm talking about the teachers of course. We're the ones with the kids every day. If I bumped into our super on the street, I wouldn't know her, and she wouldn't know me. Many of you feel helpless with your tax situation. Well teachers have a helpless feeling too...it comes when policy is passed down from above, by people that really don't know what they're doing.
re: vote no on the school budget
February 08, 2010 | 06:48 PM

"Vote the school budget down it is the only way that this boe and superintendent will listen to the community!"

It is also the only way to get the politicians in Albany to listen. This year, going on a contingency budget would result in ZERO increase in spending (because inflation has been below zero). That would get the attention of all of these big spenders of other peoples money.
PJS Shooting
February 08, 2010 | 05:03 PM

Imagine...just imagine the uproar that would take place if a Port Jeff code officer took a PJ code car to a shooting near his home in...lets say Setauket. Oh and yes, there are active law enforcement officers working as PJ code, so let's assume it was one of them.

People on this blog would be demanding he/she be terminated for putting the village in such a position. Wake up Belle Terre. I guess someone over there didnt learn from the last lawsuit.

Nothing wrong with checking your home after a shooting nearby. Park the code car at the office, punch out on the time clock and drive your own car home.

Forget a class action suit that will take years. Vote the school budget down it is the only way that this boe and superintendent will listen to the community!
departmentalization
February 08, 2010 | 11:54 AM

"I'd be curious to see the feedback the school got from ALL parents of 4th and 5th graders, not just the ones who showed up with concerns." Yeah so would I. A group of parents of 5th graders asked the BOE and Riley at a board meeting a while back to send out a survey. They refused.

Looks like we will have to wait until all the NYS test scores are in- problem is they get them in August.

Face it- our kids are being used as experimental test subjects.

PJS SHOOTING
February 08, 2010 | 08:40 AM

What about doctors? You dont see doctors running to treat people in a car accident for fear of a law suit. Sam eholds true for off duty police. How many off duty cops are shot when running to a scene gun drawn. How many off duty cops charged because they got involved but had a few drinks and became involved in an incident. Unless you wore a uniforn or are a cop dont tell us what you would have done.
