school board meeting
March 09, 2010 | 10:01 PM

It's crystal clear that the school board has not yet prepared any sort of resemblance of a budget. The budget committee met back in January and then just once last Friday? Are they serious?? With millions of our tax dollars at stake (not to mention our kids eduction)- that's how cavalier they treat it?

It is more of the same complete disrespect and disregard for the entire Port Jefferson community that Stacy Zink and the rest of the school board have shown us all year long.

So much for all their big talk about increasing communication and getting community input!

How many kids have left the district? Good question does anyone know? The numbers are getting smaller. My question and many others want to know why? Can someone fill us in. Are we missing something?

Pay attention to the budget this year and think twice maybe three times before you place your vote. Our hard earned money is being wasted on things we do not need. We are the only small district with so many assistants, so many administrators etc. Every year the budget is passed and that alone is creating more problems. It needs to stop we are all feeling these hard economic times. Hello Port Jeff but realize we do have a say and action speaks louder than words. Vote down the budget and lets all start over together one day at a time. Good Luck everyone this year we all need it.

Who are the school board members in Port Jeff and what are their qualifications?

Quite frankly, why would anyone hire a principal and then hire someone else to teach the principal.

Reminds me of Mount Sinai when that board hired a teacher to teacher the teachers how to use a computer.

Seems to me there is political patronage not only in politics but in schools as well.

Common Sense wrote,

"Until the Village Trustees take aggressive action by building a parking garage, eliminating parking on Main St., and greening the harbor, those oh-so-special bikers will continue to denigrate the Village."

Most of us will not live long enough to see this happen and won't have the $50,0000,000.00 it would take to accomplish.

Let's deal with the problems we have and not rely on false hopes for solutions.

Wonderful questions on this blog. Go the BOE Meeting tonight, get up and ask them directly and don't sit down until you get the answer. You have a right to be answered on how this district is wasting, yes, wasting our money. Secondly someone asked what happened. I can answer a bit of that. You have a Union that will scream to the rooftops when it comes to their time and salary, and yet sit in utter silence when it comes to the children. That's first. The sweetheart deals they carved out for themselves have lowered the education standards at the ES. Complete with their threats and black t shirts every day, they got most of what they wanted, to heck with the children. Secondly, you have a Super that likes to spend others money with no explanations because he knows better, period, and a BOE who either has their own self interests vested or are only having concerns about what affects their children or status. They all need to go, not one of them, except for Collins, ever opens their mouth to question anything. Why are they there? They have taken this plane on a nosedive and we're all the passengers. Get up, get out and speak out tonight, it's for your children.

Compare PJ Village to other towns on LI
March 08, 2010 | 10:42 PM

PJ rates poorly in comparison to other towns on LI Stonybrook, Sayville, Northport, Babylon village, Oyster bay, Rockville Centre, Garden City, Port Washington these towns are beautiful. Upscale stores stay in business and store fronts are updated. Roads are maintained. Money is being wasted in PJ. The goverment and the school are run poorly in the village.

School Budget

While I've not heard what the budget is, I hope the board remembers that there is a recession and many are unemployed.

Any .. ANY increase is unconscionable and irresponsible.

I've been born and raised here, I have MBA, yet would not be able to get a job at the Port Jefferson School District becuase I lack NYState Certification.

Although, I did teach at the college level for three years as an adjunct.

Nor can I be hired as a school administrator.

I am a well known community member, love kids,

and would rather work in the schools in some capacity although i'd never be consider vs the people being hired and given the fast track.

I'm ashamed to say what the heck is happening to our community ?

I am very strongly considering moving also.

I don't see the rainbow living here...like I use to.

When politics is put in front of community and I see all the outsiders being brought into many of the big jobs not just in the schools.

Relocating......NOT to Port Jefferson
March 08, 2010 | 06:27 PM

The motorcycles are one issue...

Don't be fooled that the school issues are "normal."

The problems, and they are significant, are between the

Board of Ed., Superintendent and the community.

There is NO serious community participation allowed,

decisions are made with NO plan for assessing the initiative, parents/community opinions are NOT given

any serious consideration.......It goes on and on!

Glad for you, but sorry to say that's the Port Jeff story these days. It hasn't always been this way.
