Here We go Again -SWR School District
March 06, 2010 | 07:43 AM

SWR Administration and Board of Ed are preparing for a contingency budget in anticipation that the budget will not pass. Why doesn't the budget ever pass? I was informed that 1 out of 4 elementary aged school parents do not vote. Does anyone know why? Do these parents realize what is happening to our schools? Right now, the board is proposing under a worse case scenario to excess 8 teachers in one elementary school, and this is only one school. Also music, art and even the library are being excessed. We will not get these programs back. There will be close to 30 children in a classroom. Besides the fact that the children will not be getting the attention that is needed, there is hardly any more space. Some classrooms don't even have desks they have tables. As it is, coats are on the floor being stepped on due to lack of space for hooks. It is really disgusting. How can any child focus when they are sitting on top of one another? Residents need to find out what is going on and SPEAK OUT and YES, VOTE.

Brookhaven State Park
February 18, 2010 | 05:38 PM

Brookhaven State Park is marked to be closed. For the past few years, it has been resurrected into a wonderful clean, safe beautiful area to hike, jog, cross country ski, ride a horse, bike or walk a dog. Peaceful and serene. No fees - FREE! There are 3 part-time employees at that location, making about $10.00 per hour and working 4 days per week. They would be let go and then become eligible to collect unemployment benefits from the State. They want to work - we need them to work. The operation budget for Brookhaven is less than $100,000 - including their salaries. The minute they leave, the Park will be trashed by ATV's, illegal hunting, dumping of stolen cars, fires, and other illegal activity. All that work and money spent to clean the place up for US, will have been for nothing. Now more land adjacent to the Park has been purchased and all of that land will have little or no monitoring. Go hike back there now and you see garbage, burnt out cars, illegal construction dumping and old appliances. ATV cut-outs as wide as a road. It is one thing to get the land - it is another to nurture it and protect it. Please call or write your representatives and tell them we need Brookhaven State Park open and staffed for us to use safely.

Why is there no library in Miller Place, Sound beach or Rocky Point?

I've always like being able to just walk to the library.

Why no library?

The Saddle Rock Ranch of Middle Island is just over the line at Whiskey Road on Sweeny Road. The folks there are using equestrian skills to provide physical therapy to special needs kids and adults. I have been working with the folks at Saddle Rock as a volunteer for a year. I've found the work very rewarding.

During the winter months volunteers get hard to come by and the riders are missing out. Saddle Rock needs five young adults, or old ones like me, for two hours on Sunday afternoon from noon to two, for ten weekends in a row to provide lessons to some very special kids.

Any volunteers?

JANE BONNER LOVES FISHERMEN
December 05, 2009 | 12:40 PM

The comment posted on November 20, by an alleged fishermen, is patently ridiculous. He has posted all of these charges in newspapers, including this one, throughout the campaign, which ended on November 3. The people of Council District 2 re-elected Jane Bonner by a landslide knowing full well that one or two left-wing liberals, who claim to be fishermen, do not like Jane. Guess what? Nobody cares! Fishermen and Fisherwomen overwhelmingly supported Jane Bonner both in the Republican Primary and in the general election. I have no doubt that Jane will continue to work with the people who want to fish on the beaches in Council District 2, as long as she is in public life. When somebody says they will not vote for Jane again, chances are, they never voted for her in the first place

I just heard that NY Giant, Sean Landeta of the 1986 and 1990 Super Bowl Championship team will be at Innovative Nutrition (next door to Mario's Restaurant), signing autographs on December 5th between 1-3PM. Bring your little Giant fans along for a real treat….

Jane should step aside
November 20, 2009 | 04:07 PM

Jane Bonner campaigned with lie's and empty promises. She continues to lead the 2d Council District in Brookhaven with the same old corruption as usual. She answered a questionairre from recreational fisherman which was published in a local newspaper stating that she would agree to a fishing advisory board that was filled by people that had no financial interest or direct ties to the town. Well that was a major lie because she went right ahead and appointed an attorney who happens to lobby the town for commercial interests on a regular basis. Beyond that she has somehow decided to be the Chairperson of the board. This is outrageous! What gives her the right to make the desicions regarding recreational fishing for the entire town? She was elected as a Councilperson for the 2d district. She has no say in what goes on outside her district. What a farce this is if the rest of the Town Board lets her get away with this. She is looking to destroy recreational fishing for all. The advisory board is for the entire town not just your district Jane! But she already knew that. Whats next with her? She needs to step down and do what is best for the people.

Will never vote for her again
